Our
policies on pollution control and reduction |
Asian Products Direct Online has adopted a policy of using,
wherever possible, either recycled packaging materials or materials that
are fully recyclable. We do not use the starch based packing fillers that
can be washed away as these are based is a staple food material
in Asia (rice and cassava) and is therefore valuable in terms of human
need.
We endeavor to use recycled paper
based materials such as shredded newsprint. This can then be further recycled
into items such as bathroom tissue and other low grade papers. Newsprint
itself generally is a recycled paper to a great extent so we are gaining
maximum usage out of the original wood pulp that it was made from. It
can be used for low grade papers such as egg-box type packaging materials
and seedling pots. Fillers in manila envelopes and cardboard also contain
a high level of low grade paper.
When you receive your purchase from
Asian Products Direct Online you can help the environment by passing on
any cardboard or plastic material to your local recycling centre. Shredded
newsprint can be used as garden mulch where it not only provides useful
minerals but food for earthworms and a means of concentrating moisture
around plant roots during dry periods, thus reducing valuable water usage
and enriching the soil.

Don't forget too that batteries, especially
the alkaline type contain heavy metals that are extremely poisonous. Please
do not put them in your household rubbish container where they may end up
in a landfill site. In many areas they must be treated as special waste
where they are disposed of by techniques that remove the lead, cadmium,
manganese etc. and reuse it.
